# Trademark Policy

_Last updated: 2026-11-06._

ROLEBASE is a trademark registered with the French INPI under number 4982809. It belongs to Godefroy de Compreignac. GDFR, the company that publishes Rolebase, operates it. The name and the logo identify the software published at [github.com/Godefroy/rolebase](https://github.com/Godefroy/rolebase) and the hosted service at [rolebase.io](https://rolebase.io/en).

Rolebase’s code is free software. Its license, available in the repository, lets you use, modify and redistribute the code, but grants no rights to the name or the logo. This policy protects the people who choose Rolebase: when they see the name, they know they are using the version maintained by the Rolebase team.

## Uses allowed without asking

* Talk about Rolebase in an article, a training, a talk or a post, and link to the website or the repository.
* Say that your product is "based on Rolebase" or "a fork of Rolebase", as long as it has a different name.
* Coach organizations that use Rolebase, and say so in your offers ("shared governance coaching with Rolebase").
* Install Rolebase for your organization’s internal use and keep the Rolebase name.
* Use the unmodified logo to illustrate content about Rolebase.

## Uses that require written permission

* Using "Rolebase", or a similar name, in the name of a product, a service or a company, or in a domain name.
* Offering a hosted version to third parties, free or paid, under the Rolebase name or logo.
* Presenting yourself as a Rolebase partner or reseller, or presenting your product as an official version.
* Modifying the logo or creating a variant of it.

## Forks

A fork that you distribute or host for other organizations must use a different name and a different logo. Replace the Rolebase name and logo in the interface, the emails and the documentation. Keep the copyright and license notices, as the code license requires. You can still say that your product is based on Rolebase.

If you coach organizations and want to offer Rolebase to your clients, the [partners](/en/partners) page explains how to work together. As a partner, you leave software maintenance to the Rolebase team, so your clients get every new release as soon as it ships.
